OSU faculty serve community through national STEM grant

Faculty members in the OSU College of Education, Health and Aviation and College of Arts and Sciences have been awarded an Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Sheri Vasinda, associate professor of literacy education; Dr. Stephanie Hathcock, assistant professor of science education; and Dr. Rebecca Brienen, professor of art history, will receive $264,107 for their project, “One Community, Once Challenge: Pop-Up STEAM Studios.”

OSU establishes premier partnership with Air Line Pilots Association

Oklahoma State University has established a professional development alliance with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which designates OSU as one of only 12 universities across the country selected to participate in the organization’s outreach mentor program. The OSU aviation program and the OSU Flying Aggies now hold the ALPA Aviation Collegiate Education (ACE) Club distinction. Oklahoma State is the first and only college in the Big 12 Conference to receive this honor.

Yazzie-Mintz named 2020 Brock International Prize in Education Laureate

Dr. Tarajean Yazzie-Mintz (Diné), former vice president for program initiatives at the American Indian College Fund in Denver, Colorado, has been named the 2020 Brock Prize in Education Innovation Laureate. Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa are part of an executive committee that administers the award. Ed Harris, Williams Chair of Educational Leadership in the OSU College of Education, Health and Aviation, is chair of the executive committee for the Brock Prize.

The Center for Public Life at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is the latest anchor partner for Everyday Democracy, a national organization that supports dialogue and community change to advance a more authentic, equitable and participatory democracy. The anchor agreement was formalized in a virtual signing on Oct. 8 between OSU-Tulsa President Pamela Fry and Everyday Democracy Executive Director Martha McCoy.
