Oilers hockey athletic trainer grew up around the tough sport
For Sara Latos, being the athletic trainer for the Tulsa Oilers hockey team means dealing with a lot of injuries to knees, shoulders, wrists and hips. And of course, a lot of blood.
Game days, especially the first home game of the season, start early for Destiny Lalaguna, an OSU Sports Medicine athletic trainer who works exclusively with Tulsa’s professional soccer club FC Tulsa.
Dr. Jason Moore led the August Athletic Training - Sports Medicine Project ECHO — a collaboration between the Human Performance and Nutrition Research Institute and OSU Center for Health Sciences. He provided critical resources to help medical and school professionals prepare to respond appropriately when an athlete collapses from suspected arrhythmia, heat exposure or head injury.

Luke Akande is one of the first dedicated athletic trainers for BMX, bicycle motocross, the sport where riders race on dirt tracks with jumps and turns that showcase athletes’ speed and style. He recently joined OSU Sports Medicine and works full-time for USA BMX out of the headquarters in Tulsa.
A love of sports is what brought many OSU Center for Health Sciences athletic training students to the program and Kaleigh Hanzlick, Tatum Komlodi and Samantha Renson are no exceptions.
