OSU physicist awarded $600K Air Force grant to advance quantum simulation

A team of physicists from Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research to pioneer a new approach to controlling and designing quantum systems, a key capability for next-generation quantum enhanced technologies.

History’s Eisenberg receives NEH grant for collaborative research on the First Plague Pandemic

Oklahoma State University Department of History assistant professor Dr. Merle Eisenberg recently received a National Endowment for the Humanities Collaboration grant for nearly $250,000 to conduct research on the First Plague Pandemic. The College of Arts and Sciences faculty member will be working alongside Hebrew University of Jerusalem senior lecturer Dr. Lee Mordechai to produce a book on the historical pandemic — which took place between about 541-750 CE — that’s tentatively titled, “Pandemic and History: Disease, Myth, and the End of Antiquity.”

Bachelot sees new opportunities amongst fire’s destruction of research site

When wildfires began to tear through the Stillwater region on March 14, Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Benedicte Bachelot wasn’t thinking about her research at the McPherson Botanical Preserve eight miles west of campus. “It was only when I got home safely with my kids on the east side of town that I realized that my site was on fire,” Bachelot said.

Before coming to Oklahoma State University in 2016, Dr. Holly Karibo worked at a university near Fort Worth, Texas, where a cluster of old 1930s-era buildings caught her eye. Sitting on the Texas prairie, these were the remains of the historic Fort Worth Narcotic Farm, which is the subject of Karibo’s third book, “Rehab on the Range: A History of Addiction and Incarceration in the American West.”

OSU SACNAS chapter measures sun’s atmosphere in nationwide eclipse project

During the April 8 solar eclipse, Oklahoma State University’s chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) ventured to Arkansas to measure the sun’s corona. As part of a Citizen Continental-America Telescope Eclipse project — or Citizen CATE — to capture the sun’s totality across the United States, Dr. Mario Borunda took a group of volunteers to Arkansas for their segment of the data collection.

As the world slowed down in the early months of 2020, Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Cristina González was finding momentum in her corner of art history. An expert in colonial Latin American art, González specializes in New Spain, which was a viceroyalty of the Spanish Empire that existed from 1521-1821 and included Mexico, Central America and the southwestern United States. So, when González’s former OSU colleague, Dr. Mark White, approached her at the beginning of the pandemic about creating an exhibition for the New Mexico Museum of Art — of which he had just become executive director — she leaped at the chance to showcase Catholic sainthood and relevant artworks during the New Spain era.

Computer Science's Pu receives NSF grant for Internet of Drones systems research
