Oklahoma State University professor Dr. Miriam McGaugh is an expert in analyzing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns within it. While an epidemiologist for the Oklahoma State Department of Health, she used health care data to create community public health initiatives. Now the assistant professor of professional practice in business analytics in the Spears School of Business is taking on the tragedy of human trafficking in the United States.

Oklahoma State University researchers will share a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant with engineering faculty from the University of Louisville to study using robots to help nurses care for hospital patients. Dr. Bryan Edwards, associate professor of management at the Spears School of Business, and Dr. William Paiva, executive director of the OSU Center for Health Systems Innovation, will receive $500,000 in the joint project.

An analysis of digital health records from thousands of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals around the country has led to the development of technology to predict the risk of death for those with COVID. Researchers at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI) in Tulsa and Stillwater are using digital health data to build predictive models of disease risk that could improve treatment and outcomes.

Oklahoma State University professor Dr. Alexis Smith Washington, with co-authors, has been awarded the 2020 Saroj Parasuraman Award for the best peer-reviewed journal article by the Academy of Management. Washington, associate professor of management in the Spears School of Business, won for novel research published last year examining a paradox in the perception of black female executives as professionals.

Economic recovery in the state will be slow through this summer and into the winter, according to economists at Oklahoma State University, who predict that as many as 10,000 jobs could be lost in the energy sector alone.

Female college students who took an online principles of microeconomics course have been shown to earn higher grades in a follow-on intermediate microeconomics course than females who took the introductory class in a traditional classroom, according to a study by Oklahoma State University researcher Dr. Laura Ahlstrom. The research suggests class format could affect the success of women studying economics.

The TAMUGA rankings (a joint effort by Texas A&M University and the University of Georgia) placed the productivity of the department's researchers at the top of the Big 12 Conference.
