The Riata Center for Entrepreneurship in the Spears School of Business awarded a total of $75,000 to three teams of Oklahoma State University student entrepreneurs this summer in the first round of a new investment fund designed to invest in budding student-led businesses. Called the Riata Pre-Seed Fund, the innovative financial tool invests in student startups that have been shown to have potential as for-profit ventures.

Much of that research shows that traditional approaches to judging a person’s work performance are perceived as less than helpful and often even counterproductive. Oklahoma State University professor Dr. Tom Stone is charting a shift away from the traditional boss as ‘judge and jury’ approach to evaluating performance in newer systems where talent development is the goal.

The actuarial and financial mathematics senior recently earned a Women for OSU scholarship for her philanthropy and community service. She volunteered at Countryside Baptist Church in Stillwater and helped build communities of support for families with children who have special needs.
