Subhash Kak, regents professor and emeritus of electrical and computer engineering at Oklahoma State University, was awarded The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) Award for the advancement of Dharmic Arts & Sciences for 2019 on June 24, 2019 on the Capital Hill of the Congress in Washington DC. The award is presented to individuals for their continuous work to educate Americans at large about Hindu traditions through the promotion of Dharmic arts and sciences.

Graham sees science and art in dentistry

Caroline Graham decided she wanted to be a researcher as a young girl. She was inspired by a National Geographic article about the study of microbes in the ice of Antarctica. The recent Oklahoma State University graduate is headed to the University of Oklahoma’s College of Dentistry. She completed an Honors College degree in May with a double major in microbiology/cell and molecular biology, and biochemistry, along with minors in chemistry and accounting. Among the many awards she earned were College of Arts and Sciences Top 10 Seniors and recognition among the OSU Alumni Association’s 15 Outstanding Seniors.

According to Oklahoma State University researcher Kimberly Houser, the answer is to address the source of the problem – human decision-making. Her soon-to-be published research shows that using machine decision-making through artificial intelligence (AI) can remove unconscious bias and “noise” from the hiring and promotion process and begin making the workplace reflect a diverse society.

It was natural for Emily Fry to become a scholar at Oklahoma State University, where her parents are both leaders. Her mother, Pamela, is OSU-Tulsa's president. Her father, Don, is director of technology for the College of Education, Health and Aviation. Fry recently completed her biological science/pre-health degree, earning significant honors for her accomplishments, including recognition as one of the OSU Alumni Association’s 15 Outstanding Seniors and as a College of Arts and Sciences Top 10 Senior.

WFC awards $17,000 to 23 students

The Oklahoma State University Women’s Faculty Council recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with its annual research awards and the inaugural OSU Faculty Poster Symposium. At the student research award ceremony, $17,000 was awarded to 23 students. Colleges and divisions throughout OSU sponsored the funding. Out of 75 applications, the 23 awardees were made up of 11 doctoral candidates, eight master’s degree students and four undergraduates.

Bruck earns Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and Course Hero have named an Oklahoma State University professor as one of eight emerging leaders in their field who are on a trajectory to help students grow into thought leaders and innovators of tomorrow. Jason Bruck, an animal behaviorist specializing in marine mammal communication and cognition, is a teaching assistant professor in the Department of Integrative Biology.
