Psychology alumna researching suicide prevention in Native communities

Victoria O’Keefe (’12 M.S., ’16 Ph.D.) came to Oklahoma State University to pursue advanced degrees in psychology. Her time here ignited her passion for research, clinic work and advocacy with indigenous communities. She is now an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of International Health, in the Social and Behavioral Interventions Program. COVID-19 is wreaking havoc globally, in the U.S. and in the state of Oklahoma. Payne County alone has 14 confirmed cases already (updated March 31, 2020). Protective gears are urgently needed for those medical and police personnel who are on the frontline of fight against the coronavirus pandemic. On March 30, the Stillwater Chinese community, led by the OSU Chinese Faculty & Staff Association (CFSA) and the Stillwater Chinese Baptist Church (SCBC), donated 7,200 facemasks to Stillwater Medical Center and another 2,400 to the Stillwater Police Department.

COVID-19 diagnostic lab at OSU accelerating testing in Oklahoma

Oklahoma State University’s (OSU) Diagnostic Laboratory has completed its validation and verification procedures and is now operational as an approved COVID-19 diagnostic lab, dramatically increasing Oklahoma’s testing capabilities. The lab does not test individuals for the virus, but rather analyzes samples sent by health care providers.
