OSU Humanities Research Group Fellowship sparks innovative research on ‘Land’ and the human experience

Oklahoma State University’s Center for the Humanities recently announced its 2025-2026 Humanities Research Group Fellowship cohort, which includes Lindsey Abernathy (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies), Dr. Kathleen Burns (English and American Studies), Dr. Mette Flynt (History), Lara Goncalves, (Sociology), Madelyn Powers (History), and Shelby Roberts (Art, Graphic Design, and Art History).

Amazing Gracie: Father plays bagpipes at daughter’s OSU graduation after 11 years of commencements

Tony Spurlock's daughter, Gracie, came along to watch her dad play at nearly every commencement. Over the years, the two have formed many ties with the university, creating memories along the way. This year, however, looks different for the Spurlocks. Tony will be there in December to play as his daughter will once again watch on, but this time as a graduate.

OSU physicists discover universal ‘Squeezing Phase Transition’ with implications for quantum technology

A team of physicists at Oklahoma State University led by assistant professor Dr. Thomas Bilitewski has identified universal behavior in the way quantum systems evolve, with potential applications in quantum enhanced sensors. The findings, which advance our understanding of entanglement or the quantum property famously described by Albert Einstein as “spooky action at a distance,” were published in the journal Physical Review Letters on September 11.

Stabilizing Force: OSU researchers create ‘smoke alarm’ for earthquakes

Intact — a seismic device about the size of a shoebox — is simple to use: Just clamp it to a structure’s foundation, and it connects to the WiFi, sending data to servers that can provide a digital footprint for the building. This allows people to see how often the structure is subliminally shaking and give them time to stabilize it in case of an earthquake.
