Spears announces 2020 Hall of Fame inductees

An analysis of digital health records from thousands of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals around the country has led to the development of technology to predict the risk of death for those with COVID. Researchers at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI) in Tulsa and Stillwater are using digital health data to build predictive models of disease risk that could improve treatment and outcomes.

A global honor

Dr. Ramesh Sharda was named a 2019 Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) at its International Conference in Information Systems in Munich, Germany, in December. He was one of only two Americans honored by the international organization representing information systems research, education and practice.

While an epidemiologist for the Oklahoma State Department of Health, she used health care data to create community public health initiatives. Now the assistant professor of professional practice in business analytics in the Spears School of Business is taking on the tragedy of human trafficking in the United States.

An early collaboration

New head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management brings energy, vision to the role

For Dr. Brij Thapa, moving to Oklahoma with his family in September to take over as the head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at Oklahoma State University was a major life change. He had never been to the state before and even interviewed for the position virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. And he bought his Stillwater home without seeing it in person. Despite a lack of time spent on the ground in Oklahoma, Thapa said the opportunity was too great to pass up.
