Falling for research: OSU freshman honored for work on projects

There’s more to a fall than a simple loss of motor skills. So perhaps there should be more to trying to predict the risk of a fall than merely measuring motor skills. The idea intrigued Taryn Blackstock, a freshman majoring in applied exercise science. She had been selected as a Freshman Research Scholar, expanding her education beyond the classroom by engaging in research projects. Blackstock worked with College of Education, Health and Aviation faculty member Jason DeFreitas and graduate students in the Applied Neuromuscular Physiology Lab.

Grants awarded to researchers in humanities, arts and design

Oklahoma State University faculty in the humanities, arts and design have been awarded research grants in a new funding program from the Office of the Vice President for Research. Grants of up to $10,000 were awarded to 15 tenured and tenure-track faculty to fund a research project in their areas of study.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently awarded Oklahoma State University professor Sue Jacobs $99,998 for a project that will study the interest of Native Americans to pursue and persist in engineering faculty positions. The two-year Early-concept Grant for Exploratory Research (EAGER) is awarded by the NSF Division of Engineering Education and Centers (EEC).
