FAPC honors two graduate students with Gilliland Memorial Fellowship

Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Centered honored two graduate students with the Stanley E. Gilliland Memorial Fellowship in Food Science, providing $500 toward each recipient’s education efforts. Praveen Yerramsetti, a doctoral candidate in food science, and Audrey Boeken, a food science master’s student, received the awards during a reception on April 6.

Dunford selected as AOCS Fellow

An Oklahoma State University Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center faculty member has been selected as a 2018 American Oil Chemists’ Society Fellow. Nurhan Dunford, FAPC oil and oilseed specialist and professor in the OSU Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, will be recognized May 6 at the Welcome Plenary Session during the 2018 AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Finch did not have much agricultural experience growing up, but decided to show livestock in high school. When it came time to pick a university, Finch chose Oklahoma State University because of its excellent reputation.

Be cautious with what is coming in with donated hay

The wildfires, combined with the yearlong drought, have left a lot of producers relying on hay from other areas to feed their livestock. During the last major fire outbreak, donations were very generous and hay was shipped in from various locations to help people in need. However, some of the hay brought with it invasive species and some producers had to deal with those issues on top of losses they already experienced.
